Door Painting in Worcester, MA
Front doors, interior doors, closet doors and the frames around them. Cleaned, sanded, primed and finished smooth, so they look new and still close cleanly.
The surface everyone touches
Doors get handled more than any other painted surface in the house. Hands, keys, pets and the swing of the door wear the paint at the edges and around the knob first. A door painted without cleaning and sanding peels there within a year, and a door painted too thick starts to stick in its frame. Doing it right means a clean, scuffed surface, the right primer and thin, even coats.

Doors we paint
- Front and entry doors. Wood, steel and fiberglass doors in a durable exterior finish, in a color that suits the house.
- Interior doors. Panel and flat doors, painted on both faces and every edge so they read as finished from either side.
- Closet and bifold doors. Including louvered doors, sprayed or brushed so paint does not pool in the slats.
- Frames and casings. Jambs, stops and casings caulked and painted so the whole opening matches.
- Storm and garage doors. Painted with products rated for metal or exterior wood, as the surface needs.
How a door job runs
Remove hardware and clean
Knobs, plates and hinges come off or are masked. The door is degreased, because hand oil around the knob is the first place paint lets go.
Sand and prime
Old finish is scuffed so new paint can grip, chips are filled, and bare wood or slick factory finishes get a bonding primer.
Finish without brush marks
Panels first, then rails and stiles, in a paint that levels as it dries. Edges are painted too, with dry time between coats so doors do not stick.
Front door color
A front door is the easiest way to change how a house looks from the street. Deep colors like black, navy and dark green need more coats to cover evenly, and a front door that faces south takes more sun. We will help you pick a color and a finish that will hold up on your door.

Door painting questions
Do you take the doors off to paint them?
Interior doors are often painted in place with the hardware removed. Some doors come off and are painted flat for a smoother finish. We decide door by door.
How long before I can close a freshly painted door?
Usually the same day, once the paint is dry to the touch. Exterior doors are scheduled so they can close and lock by the end of the day.
Can you paint a steel or fiberglass door?
Yes. Each gets a primer made for that material so the finish coat bonds and does not peel.
