DRYWALL PAINTING

Drywall Painting in Worcester, MA

New drywall, basement finishes, additions and freshly patched walls, primed and painted so the seams, screws and patches disappear under an even finish.

Why new drywall needs its own approach

Bare drywall is two different surfaces side by side: the paper face and the joint compound over every seam and screw. They soak up paint at different rates. Roll finish paint straight onto it and the seams show through as dull stripes, a problem painters call flashing, and it gets worse in raking light from a window. The fix is not more coats of finish paint. It is the right primer first.

What we paint

  • New construction and additions. Fresh drywall in additions, finished basements, garages and remodeled rooms.
  • Repaired walls and ceilings. Patches and replaced sections blended into the rest of the wall, painted corner to corner so nothing shows. See how we repair drywall.
  • Ceilings. Flat ceilings in a true flat finish that hides small imperfections, cut in cleanly at the wall line.
  • Skim-coated walls. Walls skimmed over old damage or rough texture, sealed before color goes on.

How a drywall painting job runs

Inspect and touch up

We check the finishing under work lights before anything is primed. Ridges, sanding marks and missed screws are fixed now, because primer makes every flaw easier to see.

Seal with drywall primer

A primer made for new drywall evens out the paper and the compound so the finish coats go on at one consistent absorbency.

Two finish coats

Walls are cut in by hand and rolled in even coats with proper dry time between them, in the sheen that suits the room: flat for ceilings, eggshell or satin for living spaces, and a harder finish for baths and kitchens.

Working with your contractor

On additions and remodels we coordinate with the drywall crew and the general contractor so painting starts when the finishing is truly done, not a day early. If you are managing the project yourself, we will tell you at the estimate what the walls need before they are ready for paint.

Drywall painting questions

Do I really need primer on new drywall?

Yes. Without it the seams and patches flash through the finish. A dedicated drywall primer is the cheapest way to get an even wall.

How long after the drywall is finished can you paint?

Once the compound is fully dry, usually a day or two depending on humidity and how thick the final coats were. We check before we prime.

Can you paint a basement or garage?

Yes. Basements and garages get the same prep, with a product suited to the moisture and wear in those spaces.
