Interior Painting in Worcester, MA
Walls, ceilings, trim and doors for homes across Worcester County. The patching, sanding and priming happen first, because that is what the finished room shows.
Interior painting that starts with the walls, not the paint
Most interior paint jobs that look tired after a year were fine on the day they finished. The trouble was underneath: nail pops painted over, cracks caulked instead of taped, glossy trim that was never scuffed so the new coat had nothing to grip. In Worcester County homes, where plaster walls, old trim and decades of paint layers are normal, that prep is most of the job.
M's Fine Finishes paints bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and stairwells across Worcester, Leominster, Fitchburg and the towns between. The order of work is the same in a triple-decker apartment or a four-bedroom colonial: protect the room, fix the surfaces, then paint.

What we paint inside
- Walls and ceilings. Cut lines by hand at the ceiling and trim, rolled in even coats with proper dry time between them.
- Trim and millwork. Baseboards, casings, crown and window stools, cleaned, sanded and caulked so the joints read as one piece.
- Door painting. Panel and flat doors, edges and frames, finished without brush marks or runs on the hinge side. More on door painting.
- Drywall painting. New and repaired drywall is primed first, so patches and fresh joint compound do not show through the finish as dull spots. More on drywall painting.
- Color changes and accent walls. A dark-to-light change gets a primer coat, not three extra coats of finish paint.
How an interior job runs
Before the paint
Floors are covered, and furniture is moved to the middle of the room and covered. Outlet covers and hardware come off. Holes get filled, cracks get taped and mudded, and glossy surfaces get sanded. Water and smoke stains are sealed with a stain-blocking primer so they do not bleed back through.
Painting
Ceilings first, then walls, then trim and doors. Each coat dries before the next goes on. Rooms you need at night are put back together at the end of the day.
The walkthrough
Before we call it finished, we walk every room with you in good light and touch up anything you point out.
Painting in older Worcester County homes
Many houses here were built well before 1978, so there may be lead paint under the newer layers. Sanding or scraping those layers is handled with lead-safe prep in mind. Plaster walls are common too, and a hairline crack in plaster needs a different repair than one in drywall. If your house has either, we will point it out at the estimate and explain how it changes the work.
Interior painting runs all year, and winter is a good time to book it. Here is what to know about painting inside during a Massachusetts winter.

Interior painting questions
Do I need to move furniture before you arrive?
Clear small items, wall hangings and anything fragile. Heavy furniture gets moved to the center of the room and covered.
How long does a room take?
Most single rooms take a day or two, depending on repairs and the number of coats. Your written estimate includes a schedule for the whole job.
Can we stay in the house while you paint?
Yes. We work room by room, keep a clear path through the house, and put rooms back in use at the end of each day where we can.
